It has been more than a few years since Honda has done a major rework of the Pilot. Honda’s work horse has gained a reputation for reliability, functionality and desirability in the pre-owned marketplace. But it has been long overdue for a serious update in styling and features.
The new 2016 Pilot has arrived at Honda of Bartlesville, and it has been a longtime since we have been this excited about a model redesign. Gone is the boxed Lego look, and in is the sleek and modern look of its little brother, the CR-V. In fact at first look it has many styling cues borrowed from the CR-V. But that’s where the similarities end.
The 2016 Honda Pilot at Bartlesville Honda is 3.5 inches longer overall. Yet it is nearly 300 pounds lighter. The new Pilot has also borrowed some technology from its cousin, the Acura MDX. A variant of Acura’s V-6 power plant adds 30 horse-power under the hood from the previous 250 Horse-power, but without Acura’s Premium Unleaded fuel requirement.
The 5-Speed Automatic transmission has been scrapped, in favor of a new 6-Speed Automatic Transmission and available 9-Speed Automatic. With more power, more gears and less weight, the 2016 Honda Pilot scampers to 60mph nearly 2 seconds faster than previously. Towing capacity of the All-Wheel drive Pilot is now 5000 pounds, up 500 from the previous 4500.
So, enough about the numbers. What does Honda of Bartlesville think about the new 2016 Honda Pilot? It’s Awesome! Ergonomics are improved, especially entry and exit into the 3rd row seat. The 3rd row headrests are much more comfortable and the seat bottom has more length under the thighs. USB outlets abound and a few are of the 2.5amp variety, giving you a fast charge on your devices.
Gone is Honda’s Navigation System, in favor of a system with the smarts and interface provided by industry leader Garmin. The new 8-Inch Display Audio System is easier to navigate, with familiar swipe and Pinch-Pull control. The Pilot’s Display Audio System also runs a version of the Android Operating System, which tantalizes us with the possibility of loading Apps and Widgets. Honda has made considerable improvements with the instrument cluster. Gauges are well laid out and clearly visible from all seat height positions.
The newest Pilot has great manners around town. A tight turning radius makes for easy parking and the longer wheelbase provides a comfortable ride at highway speeds.
The Honda Pilot is equipped with a number of passive and active safety features, including Honda Sensing™, which includes:
- Lane Departure Warning (LDW) LDW can detect unintentional lane departures from detected lanes.
- Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) LKAS can reduce driver fatigue by helping to keep you in the middle of your lane
- Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) RDM actively alerts you if roadway departure is detected, and can apply active steering assistance.
- Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) ACC uses active millimeter wave RADAR to keep a set distance and speed from the vehicle in front of you while using Cruise Control.
- Forward Collision Warning (FCW)
- Collision Mitigation Braking System (CMBS)
We invite you to come test drive the new 2016 Pilot for yourself and experience what makes this new Pilot unlike any Pilot you have driven before.
