When Joe LoCicero bought his 1990 Honda Accord back in 1996, he probably didn't imagine it would carry him one-million miles. But here he is, 16 years later, and it has. Earlier this month, community members of Saco, Maine gathered to cheer on "Million Mile Joe" as he and his achievement were honored with a parade and brand-new 2012 Honda Accord.

Racking up that many miles is no small task, even for those who spend most of their time on the road. But as a traveling claims adjuster, Joe has averaged a total of 62,500 miles per year journeying all across the state of Maine. With additional experience as an automotive technician, the driven Honda owner was certainly well equipped to accomplish the task.

In order to ensure the health of his Honda Accord, Joe maintained a number of smart best practices. First, he stayed on a strict maintenance schedule and followed his owner's manual to the tee. Second, Joe changed his oil every 5,000 miles, stuck with the same oil brand, and never let his fuel tank get dangerously close to "Empty." Lastly, he used quality Honda parts. Oh, and of course we can't forget one final trick that "Million Mile Joe" employed. He always drove safe!

Did Joes ever have to make any repairs? Well, Joe purchased the Honda Accord with around 74,000 miles on it. Throughout his travels, Joe replaced the cooling fans, fuel pump and radiator twice, always paying attention to how the vehicle ran. That's it!

As for his next partner in crime, the new 2012 Honda Accord (a gift from Honda, after Joe reached the million-mile mark), Joe hasn't said whether or not he will aim for another million. "Usually I feel like a human ping-pong ball crossing the state,"¹ he said. Perhaps one "one-million mile" stretch is enough for the Honda Champion.
