J.D. Power and Associates, says that family SUVs account for one seventh of all new vehicles bought. It's no surprise to Honda of Bartlesville that the 2012 Honda Pilot sits highest in popularity among that 14-percent. The Pilot recently took the top spot in the Cars.com SUV Shootout.

Due to high-demand, automakers are boosting their family-friendly SUV models with new eye-catching designs, better fuel-economy and sharper technology to please the growing demand. The "$37,000 Three-row SUV Shootout" tested which model is successfully making these improvements while also remaining the ideal family vehicle. Who were the judges in this highly competitive, neck-and-neck competition? Well, a family, of course.

The Kochs, a four person clan from Hoffman Estates, Illinois tested and rated each contender. In addition to the Honda Pilot, vehicles  tested include the Traverse, Durango, Explorer, Sorento, Highlander and CX-9. In addition to the Kochs, automotive experts from USA Today, Cars.com and MotorWeek (the contest sponsors) also lent a critical eye.

Factors considered during vehicle testing include:

-    Navigational/entertainment system
-    Size and weight
-    Fuel economy
-    Cargo and passenger space
-    Comfort
-    Drivability

While contest contenders had different strengths within these categories, the Honda Pilot proved unbeatable. Perhaps this is due to its 250-hp, 3.5-liter V-6 Engine. Or maybe it has something to do with the  new Hondamodel's advanced safety features and rear entertainment system. Honda of Bartlesville thinks it's probably a combination of both - plus much more.  

"The Pilot remains a nice balance of size, roominess, efficiency and versatility, and it appears that Honda is becoming more generous with features for the money,"¹ one SUV Shootout judge commented. Another noted that the new Honda Pilot is, "a great choice for growing families with a sense of adventure."²
